HRH TUNKU NAQUIYUDDIN IBNI TUANKU JA'AFAR
HRH Tunku Naquiyuddin ibni Tuanku Ja'afar,57,is the eldest
son of Their Royal Highnesses, The Yang di Pertuan Besar
of Negeri Sembilan and the Tunku Ampuan.
Born in the royal town of Seri Menanti on March 8,1947,
he received his early education in Malaysia and continued
his studies at the King's School in Canterbury, United Kingdom.
He went on to study International Politics at
the University College of Wales in Aberystwyth and graduated
with a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in Economics.
Upon his graduation, he joined the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs in 1970 and was posted to the Malaysian Embassy
in Paris where he served as the 2nd Secretary until 1975.
He speaks fluent French.
In 1977 the family business, Syarikat Pesaka Antah Sdn.Bhd.,
entered into a joint venture with Jardine Matheson Holdings
(M) Sdn.Bhd. to form Antah Holdings Sdn.Bhd. He
was persuaded to head the company as its Chairman, which
position he held until April 1994. He left office
to fulfil his duty as Regent of Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus
during the term of his father's reign as the King of Malaysia.
He was re-appointed the Chairman of Antah Holdings Berhad
on 3 May 1999 after the completion of his term of office
as Regent.
Antah Holdings was the first privately-held Bumiputra company
to go public when its shares were listed on The Kuala Lumpur
Stock Exchange in November 1983. Over the years Antah Holdings
Bhd. has developed a broad-based portfolio of investments
in the Beverage Sector, Fluid Engineering, Healthcare Services,
Infrastructure, Media/Communications, Property and Specialist
Retail.
A keen environmentalist, he was a Committee Member of the
World Wide Fund for Nature (Malaysia) and Chairman of the
Malaysian wildlife Conservation Foundation.
His concern for the environment led to his appointment
as a Council Member of the Business Council for Sustainable
Development (BCSD) based in Geneva. He was one
of the 49 top businessmen and industrial leaders world-wide
who presented an in-depth analysis of how the business community
can achieve sustainable development in their business practices
through a book entitled "Changing Course: A Global
Business Perspective on Development and the Environment"
published in 1992.
Tunku Naquiyuddin's public life and interests spanned a
broad spectrum before his term of office as the Regent of
Negeri Sembilan between 26 April 1994 to 26 April 1999:
uniting the Malaysian Public companies through the Federation
of Public Listed Companies Bhd. which he founded and headed
until April 1994 and striving for Asia-pacific co-operation
through the Canada-ASEAN Centre of which he was a Council
Member. He was nominated by the Minister of Finance to sit
on the Committee of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in 1989
for two 2-year terms and was into his third them before
his resignation in 1994. He also served on the Board of
other public companies such as Sime Darby Bhd. and Tractors
Malaysia Holdings Bhd. Currently he is Chairman of Kian
Joo Can Factory Berhad and sits on the Board of Malayawata
Steel Berhad.
Tunku Naquiyuddin has led business delegations to China,
Russia including Tatarstan and France. He visited Chile
on behalf of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in 1992 and
has established important contacts with leading industrialists
and parliamentarians from that country.
Tunku Naquiyuddin makes it a point a point to keep fit
and is active in sports such as squash, water skiing, golf,
wind-surfing and tennis. He had also served actively on
sports bodies and was the founder President of the Malaysia
Board Sailing Association and the Negeri Sembilan Squash
Racquet Association. He was also the Organising Chairman
for the ever popular annual Seremban Half Marathon, of which
he is presently the Patron, and was also the Organising
Chairman of both the Singer World Squash Open Championships
held in Kuala Lumpur in 1989 and the Asian Squash Championships
held in January 1994. Currently he is the Patron of the Negeri
Sembilan Rugby Union and has helped to place Negeri Sembilan
as a leading contender in the national rugby hierarchy.
Tunku Naquiyuddin is very charitable at heart. He founded
the Yayasan Tunku Naquiyuddin in 1994 whose objectives are
to provide financial and developmental assistance to needy
individuals and institutions as well as projects and programmes
that promote academic and technical studies. Todate the
Foundation has given out more than RM2 million in the form
of scholarships to poor students as well as donations to
charitable causes such as homes for special children.
Tunku Naquiyuddin is well known for his charity fund raising
activities and has raised over
RM2 million just in 2003 alone.

Tuanku Ja'afar college is a magnificent boarding school in
Malaysia in which our chairman, HRH Tunku Naquiyuddin, is
Chairman of the Board of Governors. The school operates under
the British education system where etiquette plays an important
role and where students learn this art from a very early age.
In addition to his role in Tuanku Ja'afar College, HRH Tunku
Naquiyuddin is the Chairman and founder of the Tunku Naquiyuddin
Foundation, a charity trust that raises money to educate children
whose parents are unable to provide it.
